29.03. Railway Romance

We spent the morning sightseeing and visiting the Otago Settlers Museum (Sometimes you have to do something for education).

In the afternoon, we booked a trip from Dunedin through the Taieri Gorge on a historic train. The railway line was built during the gold rush in the late 19th century. The gold rush was quickly over, but the railway still exists today. Almost in its original state, instead of a steam locomotive, there is now a diesel engine. The train initially travels along the river valley, then winds its way up the side of the gorge to the upper end over very airy viaducts and bridges. Not for people with a fear of heights, but definitely something for train enthusiasts...
