Today the journey continues to Cairns - the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef.
After a very meager breakfast, I head to Cairns - the weather is OK, almost 30 degrees, but with lots of clouds...
The road to Cairns is also lined with lots of sugar cane at first, but you can tell that you're going deeper into the tropics. A lot of palm trees and then banana plantations again.
Shortly after noon, I arrive in Cairns and return my rental car - I would have preferred the vehicle next to it anyway... ;-)
That would be something for my mother's daughter ;-)
Cairns is very nicely laid out - lots of bars, cafes, and shops. All in all, very touristy and completely different from the hinterland or the towns along the east coast to the north, which I have passed in the last few days.
Beautiful places in Cairns...
...and always great views of the bay Finally, I check into my hotel - well located, with beautiful views and an interesting architecture...View from my hotel room... ... of the many boats My hotel - the lobby is beautifully designed in the style of the 1920s In the late afternoon, I go to the pool of my hotel for 2 hours - as soon as I arrived there, the sun hides. Nevertheless, it is pleasantly warm... In the late afternoon, the sky clouds over... ...but the atmosphere is still great... In the evening, the sky calms down again and I stroll along the water - there are some nice restaurants behind the marina. I end the day with a good meal right by the water. In the evening, I stroll along the Esplanade... Cheers - very well poured... ;-) View from the restaurant The salad with local crabs and mango tastes great Also the steak from Australian beef Tomorrow I'm going on a boat trip - I will go on a 3-day exploration of the Great Barrier Reef with the Coral Expedition. I'm looking forward to trips in the glass-bottom boat, snorkeling, and much more...Let's see how the sea is and if there is a network/internet connection. It will be exciting... :-)
