Pancake Rocks

प्रकाशित: 08.03.2019

Hello everyone!

Today I'm glad that I wasn't washed away last night, according to the campground manager, it hasn't rained this much in a long time. Good thing I have a car!

On my way along the west coast towards the south (I actually wanted to go to the glaciers, but more on that later), I made a detour to Cape Foulwind to see the seal colony. If you look closely, you can even see a few. Despite the rather mediocre weather - the name says it all - I could watch them for hours.

But there was still a long way to go today, which also took me past the Pancake Rocks. These are rock formations formed by selective weathering, which look like pancakes stacked on top of each other. Along with the crashing waves, it's an impressive experience.

When I drove through Hokitika shortly after noon, I read on a poster that there's a festival for special delicacies (apparently it's supposed to be very unique). I had already read about this Wildfood Festival in the travel guide and spontaneously decided to go there tomorrow. I'm really curious.

The glaciers won't run away that fast. And besides, I've discovered the coolest campground so far (in Ross, because Hokitika is completely overcrowded).

All the buildings are converted containers, like modular or tiny houses. Totally cool and with a view of the stormy west coast...

I'm excited about the food and the chaos (apparently it's like a big party and tomorrow is the 30th anniversary) tomorrow.
