At the southwestern end of Spain, overlooking Portugal

Publicēts: 17.10.2020

On September 29th, we started our tour on the Spanish Atlantic coast and have now reached the southwestern end. One kilometer before the Portuguese border, we made a detour to the west and are currently staying at a campsite with a beautiful view of Portugal (in the evening a beautiful, illuminated panorama). The "Río Miño" separates the countries here.

Our electrical devices and network providers are confused because Portugal has a one-hour time difference, so our devices often display Portuguese time, which caused some confusion for us at times, and we receive various SMS messages saying "Welcome to Portugal" 🙃

Along the Spanish Atlantic coast, we have been able to discover beautiful, varied landscapes as well as dream beaches and coves. But unfortunately, it is autumn and there is a bit of sadness because we cannot use them for a beautiful beach holiday (apart from the fact that there is a DOG BAN EVERYWHERE and we can't do anything without our Triene 🤪). The temperatures here fluctuate between 14 °C and 18 °C, and like in northern Germany, there is usually a more or less strong wind that is quite cool.

So:
Sun out + little wind = nice and warm.
Sun gone + wind out = freezing cold.

Unfortunately, the weather forecast for Portugal for the next few weeks is not improving, but at least it is the end of October, and we should actually be in the warm southwest of the USA now. A brief moment of sadness about our original travel plans (from us sun worshipers) should be allowed because it should not be forgotten that we have given up so much and incurred costs for our current travel options 🥴 Some of you will certainly say "be glad that you can do what you are currently doing," but please do not forget what we have given up! Please forgive me if I am not always as euphoric as you would expect 😊 We are of course trying to make the best of it, but somehow it is harder for us when the weather is bad compared to when it is sunny 😉

After Portugal had NOT been a risk area the whole time (except for Lisbon) and there, for example, like in Germany, masks only had to be worn in public places until recently, Portugal declared a state of emergency last Thursday! Because infection rates are also rising in Portugal, as they are currently in all European countries. So now we hope that we can enter the country tomorrow without any problems!

But as far as we can currently read, the only change for us is that we now also have to wear a face mask outside the car in Portugal, which we know well enough now. Hopefully, it will stay that way and, for example, campsites will not have to be closed (in autumn/winter, only a very limited number of campsites are open anyway!) or even tourists will be expelled from the country (the same applies to Spain, through which we want to return to Portugal) ...

As always, we have put together a selection of photos for you. Yes, I know, this time it's a bit much, but it's so hard to reduce it even further because it covers a longer period of time 😊 At least you can decide how much you want to look at 😁

We will continue to travel as safely as possible. We continue to avoid city visits, shopping, eating out, always have our disinfectant with us, go grocery shopping as rarely as possible, and stay as a team of three 😷

As always, we appreciate your interest 👍 Stay healthy and best regards to all of you 🤗 We will be in touch again, hopefully from Portugal.
