Vilnius

Publicēts: 05.08.2024

Today we explored Vilnius. First, we went to the Tower Hill with the Gediminas Tower, the remnants of the castle, and a great view of Vilnius and the Neris and Vilnia rivers.

Vilnius is also called 'Rome of the East' or 'Rome of the North.' In fact, many churches shape the city's landscape. We took a closer look at two of them: the Basilica of St. Stanislaus and St. Ladislaus, and the Church of St. John.

The bell tower of the Basilica stands separately and is also one of Vilnius' landmarks. The building is impressive both inside and out. We also visited the Presidential Palace as well as the University and the Church of St. John, which is located right next to the Alma Mater of the University.

During our subsequent walk through the beautiful old town, we kept finding surprising details on the houses, streets, or striking sculptures. And there are also many great cafés in Vilnius. This time, the aroma led us to a very nice café with delicious crêpes 😁.

As we strolled further through the city, we found a café that topped all others: 'The Cats Café.'

13 lovely cats keep the guests company while they indulge. All 🐈 that are not sleeping can be petted. And we did that extensively. Actually, you only get in with a reservation, but we were lucky 🍀. There we tried Kvass for the first time. A bread drink - very tasty!

After our unplanned and therefore even more delightful café visit, we were drawn to the television tower. At 326 m, it is the 8th tallest television tower in Europe. From the observation deck at a height of 165 m, you have a great view of Vilnius and its surroundings.
