Vikings in Gudvangen

Well, well. After yesterday's freezing and rainy day, the sun welcomes us today with a bearable 15 degrees. What joy! So our plan to visit the Viking village of Gudvangen is implemented with joy. After a hearty breakfast, the motorhome, including us, sets off. On the way to the Viking village, we have to pass through the 11km long Gudvangen tunnel, once the longest tunnel in Norway, and we also drive through the currently longest road tunnel in Norway, the Lærdalstunnelen with 24.5km. It's pretty impressive, but also depressing. Somehow, the safety standard of the Norwegians is different from what we know. There are no escape routes or emergency rooms. Only fire extinguishers and a telephone, that's it. The ventilation also gives an idea of how dangerous the situation must be in case of a fire. It smells extremely of exhaust gases and there is very little visibility due to smog. A small highlight are the three illuminated stages in between.

Arriving in Gudvangen, we happily marched into the museum. During the summer months, there are several people living here, as well as in many other Viking villages in Scandinavia, who engage in and reenact the everyday life of the Vikings. We were able to watch some craftsmen at work. Brave ones can practice archery and axe throwing. However, we were very disappointed with the "AUTHENTIC" Viking food. An Odin burger for 24 euros is frankly a cheek.

However, if you don't mind, you can expect a pleasant stroll through the village.
