On 22.09.2017 we arrived in Broome. We went straight to Cable Beach, the landmark of Broome. Like on many beaches in Australia, it is common here to drive directly to or on the beach with the car. Camel caravans passed by between the cars all the time, packed with tourists. It was a bit strange. :-)
We wanted to camp on the beach at night. The sand there was much deeper than at Cable Beach. Since we almost got stuck several times on the way there, I suggested that it would be better to leave the cars on the rocky ground and carry our stuff to the beach. But the two drivers didn't want to hear that and happily drove to the beach - and both got stuck in the deep sand after three meters!
The rest of the evening and the early night we spent trying to get the cars out of the damn sand...
The others wanted to continue driving the next day. But since I wanted to stay in Broome for a few days, our ways parted here. Laurin wanted to fly to Perth the next day and also stayed here.
Broome is not very big, but you can easily keep yourself busy here for a few days. I went to the beach several times during my days there (there are many of them!), visited the museum, the Japanese cemetery, the Matso's brewery (Yummy!) and also spent a lot of time in the hammocks of the hostel. :-)
In my hostel, I met Sarah, like Andy also from England. She wanted to drive along the west coast to Perth and was still looking for travel companions.
And so the journey continued on 26.09.2017 towards the south.
