Day 8: Plitvice Lakes

Today we visited one of the most beautiful nature parks in Croatia. The drive went through the vast hilly hinterland with a view of the forested Balkan ridge. The Plitvice Lakes Nature Park has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979 and is visited by 1 million tourists annually. You can hike along 16 lakes that are connected by abundant waterfalls. In between, there is a boat ride and if you hike all the way to the other end (which we did of course), you can take the train back. This day was exhausting due to the number of people, but definitely worth a visit! And to top it off, Winnetou rode by at the end.
