From Senheim via Bernkastel-Kues to Konz

Publicēts: 04.05.2023

We set off early from Senheim to Bernkastel-Kues, as we wanted to meet our club colleagues Heike and Stefan at the harbor in Bernkastel-Kues. However, when we exited the harbor, we were immediately disappointed to see a cargo ship right in front of us and another one about 1 km upstream upon closer inspection. There's no way around it, either you go ahead and wait at the next lock or you wait right away.

When we arrived at the lock, it became clear that the first one needed the lock for itself, so we were fortunate that the second one was so short that there was still some space left for our Gustav behind it.

And so we wasted the day because the first one, a convoy, actually drove more to the side than forward in the tight windings of the Moselle River.

Fortunately, before the last lock, he had a change of heart and let both of us go ahead.

In Senheim, we tested our charging management for the first time, a night without shore power. The test was successful, but can we also make our breakfast coffee using an inverter from the battery? I can tell you, it worked. Only that the coffee tasted a lot like Lake Constance that day was not because of the power, but because of my dosage of coffee powder.

In Bernkastel-Kues, we took a day off. We had to correct the weight distribution in the ship. Apparently, in the last few months, I had significantly favored the starboard side when loading.

From Bernkastel-Kues, we continued to Konz where we planned to take a few days off upon our arrival. The program includes Trier, shopping, and the coolant temperature sensors coming by DHL. Heike and Stefan have also planned a few days in Konz.

From Konz, the bridges are significantly lower, so we have to reduce our superstructures. Our 5.25 m are unsuitable in the French canals, where the lowest clearance heights are 3.40 m. This time, even the windows have to be removed, and our new bimini will be used for the first time. Then it will be significantly airier on the flybridge at the helm station, well, the name fly must come from somewhere, after all.
