We explore Ko Lanta

Enough of lazing around! Today should not rain, so we rented a Tuk Tuk to drive to our legendary stalactite cave. But after a few minutes, we realized that driving a Tuk Tuk is not that easy.

After Christian almost hit a parked car, we didn't feel so safe anymore. So we rented a scooter instead. This time I could also enjoy the surroundings instead of focusing on the traffic, because unlike on Ko Samui, we were almost alone on the island here.

First, we went to a street market for breakfast. We were so excited about the many different things there that we had to try almost everything. As the only Europeans, we probably stood out.

After getting lost a few times, we found our stalactite cave. Unfortunately, it was closed because during the rainy season, the water in the cave is too high and the oxygen level is too low. What a pity!

Next, we drove to the old capital of Ko Lanta, the so-called Old Town. It was really nice with its many shops. No idea why we didn't take a picture of it. We were probably too busy trying to find pants that fit Christian. Most of them were too big! After the effort, we went to a restaurant there and had a shake. While we were waiting, the kids could also swing in the restaurant. We were the only visitors in the whole Old Town. That was somehow strange.

Refreshed, I managed to convince my family to go to a waterfall. I had read in the travel guide that the way there should be very beautiful and adventurous. And it actually was. So adventurous that we thought we had gotten lost in the jungle. So we went back to the starting point. There we told the lady at the ticket booth that we couldn't find the way. When we found out that there was no path, we decided not to search for the waterfall anymore.

Instead, we wanted to enjoy the sunset in a nice restaurant. So I looked into our Lonely Planet again to find out where the best restaurant for that would be. The navigation system found it, but unfortunately we didn't. But in retrospect, it didn't matter because we accidentally drove past the beach where Christian and I were before the birth of our children. We also recognized our bungalow right on the beach. We couldn't see the sunset from this beach, but we could see a soccer game, which Mattis was particularly fascinated by.

As soon as the sun sets, it gets pitch dark. And since the streets are not well lit, we drove to our resort and ate there in a very nice location with hammocks nearby. We love hammocks, so much so that we brought three of them from home. Since they are not exactly light, we should have coordinated better, especially since we haven't used them yet. I also fear that we will not use them in the future.

It was a great day today with many beautiful postcard motifs, monkey families crossing our path, and elephants in the distance.
