Day 26 Yosemite

Publicēts: 17.07.2016

Today we set off early. We wanted to arrive at Yosemite National Park before the crowds. The drive from the campground to the park entrance took about an hour. We went through a beautiful valley with a magnificent mountain stream. Almost like in Switzerland. Just, an hour's drive and no houses along the road. There was already quite a lot going on in the park itself. But we managed to park our RV just in time. After a visit to the Visitor Center, we took a walk to a beautiful waterfall. Then we went to other viewpoints to take some photos of this unique landscape. Later in the afternoon, we went to see the giant sequoia trees (Sequoiadendron giganteum). They are not so easy to find. The road is being renovated to reach the best accessible specimens. This will take two years, so you have to choose a slightly more challenging path to see the giant trees. First, you drive about 30 km up a mountain road. Along dizzying cliffs, the road winds up to about 2500 meters above sea level. Then you have to continue on foot for about half an hour steeply downhill. (And then uphill again afterwards). However, the effort is worth it. It's unimaginable that there are such huge trees. Our forest ranger's eyes turned completely red.

After the exhausting hike back, we returned to the campground tired but with many great impressions.

However, the day wasn't over yet. We still had to pack our bags and tidy up the camper. After all, the return is scheduled for tomorrow at 11 a.m. in San Francisco.
