Hi guys,
since our campsite was extremely unspectacular today, we moved our breakfast to a spot in a bay near the campsite. There was actually some variety on the breakfast table today.
We had pancakes with chocolate banana filling, muesli, and bread.
I already missed my "fried egg avocado toast" a bit.
Well, after a good breakfast, we drove for 1.5 hours to the North Cape of the Coromandel Peninsula.
The road was mostly a gravel road.
But not a normal gravel road.
When the GPS showed 30km, 1.5 hours of driving time, I looked a bit skeptical, but when I started driving on the road, the long driving time quickly made sense to me.
The road was an extremely narrow gravel road. On one side, the cliff to the sea, on the other side, rocks.
However, the road was supposedly suitable for 2 cars coming from opposite directions. In practice, this was not possible! Every time I saw oncoming traffic, I felt like I almost fell down the sometimes loose 50m high cliff because the road was so narrow. When a campervan came towards me, I immediately had a panic attack, but luckily there was a pullout at that spot that allowed the campervan to pass.
In such moments, I really appreciate the good old German infrastructure. I'd rather drive through the construction site on the A7 5 times than have to deal with such a road catastrophe!😅
Well, in a way, it's also an adventure and a cool experience!
Once we arrived at the hiking track, we started right away.
Ahead of us was a 4-hour track at Fletcher Bay, over mountains, through a forest full of palm trees, along coasts, and even over a sheep pasture, which was absolutely cool!😍
Looking back, I would say this track is the most beautiful in all of New Zealand so far.
The nature was just incredible, and hiking was easy despite extreme inclines when you looked at the nature around you!😊
Back at the car, we drove back on Hell Street and are now at a super cute campsite, right on the edge of the sea between mountains!
We have 2 mega cool activities planned for tomorrow that you can be really excited about! I am too!
See you then!😊
Greetings from Matarangi, New Zealand!🇳🇿
Your Tim😊
