Day 6 - Helsingborg-Maribo (DK)

Publicēts: 13.08.2017

After a truly excellent breakfast, we saddle up our bikes and head towards Malmö. From there, we will cross the Øresund Bridge to Denmark. I wonder if the temporarily patched helmet will hold?

The weather today is again perfect for motorbike riding. Sun, clouds, but also a good amount of wind. We are always moving along the coast.

Once out of Helsingborg, we are directed onto the E6. Okay, let's make a few kilometers on the freeway. However, we have time and don't drive faster than 90 km/h. After about 30 minutes, we signal to the navigation system 'no more freeway, please'. The next exit is already ours, and we continue on country roads. Let's see what it's like here. We quickly realize that the landscape is very similar to northern Germany. Only a few spots with a view of the sea make us stop time and time again.

Could also be Scotland!

We reach Malmö and have to take the freeway again, there's no other way to cross the bridge.

And there it is, the Øresund Bridge!
(Pictures will follow)

The bridge is crossed unspectacularly, but already very impressive! We head towards Copenhagen on the freeway. Here we have to remind the friendly lady in the navigation system once again that we want to exit the freeway. It's too early, so we have to exit the freeway at the next possible exit and fight our way through Copenhagen.
Finally, we get out onto the wide countryside, literally. As we already know, Denmark is not an Eldorado for motorbike riders. Unless you like to wear down your tires square.
We're going straight ahead monotonously, luckily they put a lot of emphasis on roundabouts here. We already consider that a highlight.

The ride through Denmark is tough, but the weather is good to us and we cruise kilometer after kilometer. In the late afternoon, we reach the small town of Maribo. In the first moment, we think we're driving through Neumünster. No idea why?!
We head to our hotel. It looks nice... from the outside!

And the view from the balcony... yes, we actually have a balcony, is really nice.

But the room itself is rather maritime compared to the Swedish hotel rooms... and unfortunately not very clean. Is that the standard in Denmark? Doesn't matter, it's okay for one night.

The restaurant mentioned in the hotel description is closed and we don't get the feeling it will open again anytime soon....
So we go to the hotel across the street, where there is a buffet tonight. Compared to the very run-down furnishings there, the buffet is very diverse and consistently delicious.

Tomorrow we will continue towards Rødby and take the ferry to Fehmarn.

Conclusion of this day:
- Duct tape makes helmets stylish and holds everything together nicely.
- Øresund Bridge is doable, but not a must
- Roads in Denmark can appear very long.
- In Danish hotel rooms, you will apparently find furniture from the royal house.
