Back to São Paulo to pick up our Egon after going to Rio de Janeiro. Then, after another day of driving, we arrived on the island of Florianópolis. We found a nice vacation rental in Ingleses at the northern end of the island. Unfortunately, it was a bit chilly as it is winter. The island is a surfer's paradise, but it's not just about surfing, you can also do kiteboarding and windsurfing. When there are so many surfers in one place, the atmosphere is accordingly relaxed.
The boys also found a surf school to rent boards from and went surfing right away. I took the opportunity to visit a turtle rescue center. It was more geared towards children, but it was still nice. I find it very interesting that in almost all of Brazil, organizations search the beaches every day for injured turtles and marine creatures. The big problem for the turtles is that they often mistake plastic bags for jellyfish, so marine pollution has a particularly large impact on them, I didn't know that yet.
On another cold day, we visited a national park with an animal rescue center. The ranger told us a lot about the animals here, most of which came from private households or were found injured. They are taken care of in the hospital and if they are still able to survive afterwards, they are released back into the wild. A little bit of culture has to be done sometimes too.
