Hello and let's continue,
After my beautiful walk at Lake Matheson, I drove to Punakaiki. It is a small town, but has a lot to offer in terms of scenery. This place is located between the ocean and a rainforest. There you can see the famous Pancake Rocks and Blowholes. The Pancake Rocks are called that because they look like several pancakes stacked on top of each other. In between, there are also blowholes. These are so-called blowholes, narrow openings at the end of a sea cave. I drove past this tourist attraction to check in at my hostel. It was simply wonderful. Located right by the sea, the kitchen and lounge had an unobstructed view of the ocean. I enjoyed this view during lunch. Just as I was about to leave, it started raining, so I made myself comfortable on the sofa in my room and started planning the next few days. Unfortunately, this was quite frustrating as all the accommodations were quite expensive and not well-rated, and I was unsure if the possible activities were really worth the driving and cost. After a while, I got really restless and just packed my things and drove to the Pancake Rocks. And boy, was I glad that I went at that exact moment. There were hardly any people there, and I was rewarded with a beautiful sunset over this already impressive natural spectacle. It was exactly what I needed in that moment. After I returned to the hostel and cooked myself dinner, I ran into my successor from Te Anau. What a coincidence. We hadn't exchanged numbers or knew about our plans, and yet we just ran into each other like that. Don't let anyone say that the world isn't small. While eating, we chatted with another German and exchanged tips. That evening, I went to bed relatively late for my standards. But I was glad that I had such a nice evening and didn't have to bother with planning anymore.
The next morning (09/22), I had a leisurely breakfast and then went back to the Pancake Rocks. At 12 o'clock, it was high tide when the blowholes were particularly impressive because the water spurted out. Before that, I made a detour to the information center and coincidentally saw photos of the possible activities for that day, so I spontaneously decided that they were worth it. But that's what the next blog entry is about.
Even before 12 o'clock, the blowholes were impressive, so I was able to make a video from each of them. These can be seen on Instagram and Facebook. If someone wants to receive them, just let me know ;)
That's it from my stay in Punakaiki. A small but worth seeing detour.
Until next time,
Your Jessi
