After our ferry docked on the South Island at around 7:30 p.m., we drove the winding road to the Momorangi Bay Campground. There we ate dinner, showered and did a load of laundry. After the day, the three of us were pretty tired and slept well 💤
In the morning we enjoyed the beautiful sea view from our camper at breakfast and then drove back via Picton to the Marlborough wine region. There we made a short stop at the Cloud Bay winery and then looked at the town of Blenheim, where we had delicious coffee.
We continued along the SH1 along the sea. Just before Kaikoura we stopped at the Nins Bin fish stall, which had crayfish (a local type of crab).
In Kaikoura we were able to observe seals in several places and took a look at the beautiful landscape on a walk across the Kaikoura Peninsula.
In the evening we were particularly lucky and were able to get one of the 5 coveted pitches right by the sea.
The next morning we got up at 7 and drove to another section of the beach to watch the sunrise while having breakfast.
We then went along the coast to Christchurch. On the way we had the company of countless dolphins that happily jumped out of the water.
In Christchurch we visited the city center and the botanical gardens. We also went to the Quak City Museum, where you could learn about the earthquakes that hit Christchurch in 2010 and 2011.
Lunch was meat pies and mashed potatoes in the Riverside Market, followed by coffee in the beautiful former University of Christchurch building.
