We had to leave the ship early in the morning. After a heartfelt farewell from our crew and travel companions, with the occasional promise to see each other again, we visited the fish market in Rijeka.
On our way inland, we took the coastal road as long as possible and made a stop in Senj.
From there, we continued into the mountains on a very winding road. After visiting a bear sanctuary, where orphaned brown bears are raised, we reached our destination in the early evening. A dreamy lodge located deep in the forest, just a few meters from the entrance to the National Park.
After a sparkling wine breakfast the next morning, where we toasted to my birthday, we headed to the Gacka Valley. We admired the picturesque river source before embarking on the search for our hiking trail - not an easy task. With the help of a Croatian trail description and 'Jesus', we eventually found the starting point and began our ascent along a rarely traveled trail to a fantastic view over the Gacka Valley and the Velebit Mountains.
