31.05. Reykjavik / Iceland

Publicēts: 19.05.2019

Friday, the sun welcomes us in Reykjavik.
Since we only arrived at 12 o'clock and our car is only reserved from 2 o'clock, we took the morning very slowly.

For breakfast, we helped ourselves.
Bettina had waffles, rolls and fruit.
But Roger had, among other things: salmon with spinach pancakes, yogurt parfait and proper sweet pancakes.

Then we picked up our car on time.
Since we didn't want any stress for tomorrow, we have already explored the first stop of the Golden Circle.
Thingvellir National Park.

Thingvellir is not only geographically interesting (two tectonic plates meet here, moving apart by 2cm every year), but also historically important for Icelanders:

'Here, at the Thingvellir plain near the Almannagjá gorge, a traditional assembly called Althing was held for two weeks in June every year starting in 930 AD, at the end of the settlement of Iceland by mainly Norwegian Vikings. It had both legislative and judicial functions and is one of the oldest parliaments in the world – after those in Greece and the ancient Roman Empire’

The park is very well developed and we took beautiful photos. Very impressive everything.
Unfortunately, it started raining a bit and then we went back to Reykjavik.

Back in Reykjavik, we experienced a real Icelandic dinner.
We found a great, older neighborhood and were able to do some shopping and discovered a suitable restaurant.
What can I say, the food was just perfect.
In a beautiful old ambiance, we tried many things.
Salad with lamb/salmon/chicken skewers, vegetable cream soup, fish and chips, and cod with three kinds of celery and potatoes.
For dessert, only coffee was enough.

Then we went back to our floating hotel, the alarm clock will ring early tomorrow!
