Wake up at 05:30 AM, Sophie and Flo want to watch the sunrise over the Grand Canyon. We walk a few meters from our pitch to the edge of the Grand Canyon and climb on one of the rocks right by the cliff. The view is magnificent, so we sit there for some time, looking into the distance and depth. Unfortunately, after some time, we realize that our view to the east is blocked by a hill. It's a shame, but we still think it was worth getting up early.
In the morning, we spend some time packing up and relaxing. The eventful two weeks have taken their toll. Around 1:00 PM, we venture onto the "Transept Trail", a hiking trail that stretches about 3km along the canyon to the "Bright Angel Point" with a great view.
The trail is easily accessible and has some spots with amazing views. At Bright Angel Point, you need to have a head for heights, as you walk along a ridge where you can't see the end of the abyss on either side. Flo holds Sammy's hand tightly, and he also manages to make it to the viewpoint. The older kids even climb on a rock there, and the parents can hardly watch.
But the view of the Grand Canyon all the way to the southern rim is unbeatable. It's incredible what nature has created here. After a short coffee break at the saloon of the nearby ranch, we return the same way.
The weather is pleasantly cool here at 25°C, and the campsite is basic but beautiful. We could stay here longer.
In the evening, we fire up the gas stove and cook. We are still happy that we no longer have to eat expensive food at the restaurant.
