After the bora whistled around our ears in Split at night and there was a terrible thunderstorm, we could start the day with an extensive birthday breakfast. Ronny's birthday and, of course, there was a birthday candle and gifts. They were given to him from home. From me, he received a carving set with a matching book and a CD. It wasn't that easy to take everything unnoticed from him in the camper.
After extensive congratulations and many calls and messages, we finally secured our car against the storm and drove towards Dubrovnik. Since we took the coastal road, it took quite a while. For about 250 km, approximately 5 hours.
Okay, in between, there were a few photo stops. And you also have to stretch your legs.
Anyone who drives the route to Dubrovnik has to go through a piece of Bosnia and Herzegovina, whether they like it or not. And we obviously appeared a bit suspicious to the border officials. Already upon arrival, we were asked several times about cigarettes, alcohol, and other funny substances, but we were allowed to continue on.
Upon departure, after about 30 km, we had to pull over and were thoroughly searched.
There was nothing that didn't interest the border officers. Cups, plates, clothing, toilet paper, pots, backpacks. Nothing, we couldn't offer anything interesting. When the border officer finally rummaged in and under the müsli, he had to smile and wished us a safe journey.
Tomorrow we'll go to the old town of Dubrovnik. But now it's time for a proper dinner for my birthday child, and then we'll end the evening with water and juice.
