On this day, we visited two memorial sites that symbolize the genocide of about a quarter of Cambodia's population about 40 years ago. These murders primarily occurred because the former ruler Pol Pot wanted to transform the country into an agrarian communism. As a result, he indiscriminately killed all opponents of his plans, as well as the entire educated population.
We took a Tuk Tuk to one of the most famous of the almost 300 places in Cambodia where people were executed in a cruel manner. Some pieces of clothing from the graves were still visible on the ground. We were all speechless...
Afterwards, we went to a prison where people were tortured until they made false confessions. Based on these confessions, death sentences were pronounced. We also found it difficult to grasp what we saw and heard at this location.
