A day in Singapore

Tihchhuah a ni: 13.01.2017

Hello everyone!

We arrived in Singapore yesterday with a little delay. We had some turbulence during the flight, which wasn't so cool, especially while enjoying the delicious airplane food. Other than that, the flight was quite pleasant. By the time we went through security, got our luggage, and arrived at the hotel, it was already evening. We only went to Chinatown, where it is especially beautiful in the evening/night because it is decorated for the upcoming Chinese New Year. We also had a delicious meal and were very happy about the affordable prices - quite different from what we were used to in Australia.

This morning, we set out to explore Singapore as much as possible in one day. First, we went to Orchard Road. There are several shopping centers there, which didn't quite fit our budget, but were still very nice to look at. Then we went back to Chinatown to eat and visit the Sri Mariamman Temple. To enter the temple, we had to take off our shoes and put on fancy robes. The temple was nice, but not mind-blowing. After that, we went to Marina Bay to see the famous Gardens by the Bay and the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. First, we visited the Flower Dome, which is like an oversized greenhouse. It is truly gigantic and there are some impressive trees there. The whole place is beautifully designed, with different themed gardens representing different countries. I was able to indulge my love for flower photography there 🌺. From there, we went straight to the Cloud Forest. It's difficult to explain what it is, but hopefully you'll be able to see it in the pictures. It's very impressive to see a waterfall and everything surrounding it indoors. It also focuses on the protection of the Earth, so there is a small exhibition that is quite interesting. From the Gardens by the Bay, we already had a pretty good view of the hotel, which is also very impressive. We went to the shopping mall located in the "lower levels" of the hotel, and I think we must have walked about 5 km trying to find the currency exchange office. It's truly gigantic and filled with very exclusive shops. After that exhausting search, we headed back to the hotel. We're still a bit adjusted to Australian time and quite exhausted from the last two days.

Tomorrow morning, we'll be flying back home and we still can't believe that we'll actually be home tomorrow. So, this will be our final blog post. Thank you to everyone who has been reading along, even though we haven't been updating regularly towards the end 🙈. We definitely enjoyed our trip and hope you were able to get a little glimpse of it.

Yours, Maren and Sarah
