2 days Fraser Island....nothing but sand

Tihchhuah a ni: 08.10.2017

We were picked up early in the morning at our campsite and taken to the harbor in Hervey Bay. Then it was time to take the ferry to Fraser Island, the largest sandbank in the world. There are no paved roads or dirt roads there, only sandy tracks and beach trails. We explored the island with a modified all-wheel drive truck. We were shaken up heavily on the sandy tracks. Anna was securely strapped in her car seat and couldn't stop laughing. The shaking was a lot of fun for her.

The first stop was Lake Mc Kinsey with its clear water and snow-white sand, inviting for a swim. After a meal, we drove along the beach with our truck. The beach serves as a highway here and as a runway for small planes.

The truck stopped and without further ado, we took a helicopter flight over Fraser Island. A MEGA experience, not only seeing the island from above, but we were also able to spot whales with a calf.

The highlights Indian Head, Champagne Pools, Shipwreck and a freshwater river show how breathtaking the sandy island is.

Action-packed, with no roads or civilization, we even saw a dingo on the beach in the evening.

In the evening, our guide took us to a small resort on the island. The next day, we went hiking in the rainforest. It was humid and hot, but still beautiful.

In the afternoon, another hike was scheduled to Lake Wabby, which Ralf did alone. Anna had done well on the first hike, but we couldn't expect her to do a second one in the baby carrier in this heat. The guide was kind enough to drop us off for a swim.

Fraser Island has been one of the highlights of all our travels so far.
