Koh Phi Phi, Thailand

13.nov - 15.nov '18

Our first stop on island hopping is the small island group Koh Phi Phi. Very popular among tourists, so it's quite crowded, but still worth a visit.

The small old town on Koh Phi Phi Don consists of many small streets with restaurants, cafes, bars, and party hostels. Among them is our accommodation, the Rehab Hostel :)

The island is really small and it takes only 2 minutes to walk to the beach from anywhere.

The main attractions here are the boat trips to the dream beaches of Koh Phi Phi Leh. We decided against the expensive party boats and opted for a ride on the longtail boat. With about 15 other boats, all the popular spots are visited. First, the Monkey Beach, where around 100 people stand around 20 monkeys and harass them with their cameras. In return, the monkeys open all the bags and try to steal food and phones. So not really great. But then it continues to beaches and lagoons for snorkeling. If you can overlook the many people and just find corners where not everyone is sitting, it's a must-see in Thailand! Beautiful clear water, with many colorful fish and white sandy beaches. Then the famous Maya Bay from the movie "The Beach" is approached. However, the beach suffers so much from the constant influx of tourists that it has been closed for months. However, it looks much more beautiful without people. We made a stop in the bay and were once again surprised by the rain. But for us, it was actually a highlight of the tour. While everyone shivered under the roof on the small boat, we were in the warm water and surrounded by shoals of fish when our captain threw his pineapple scraps into the water. Finally, we looked at the plankton in the water during the last stop in the darkness. Everyone sat enthusiastically waving their heads in the water and you could only see the snorkels.

On the third day, we hiked to the viewpoint and I once again noticed how unfit I am. Well, first had a Chang and enjoyed the sunset up there. In the evening, we had a delicious Massaman Curry.

For a party island, the bars here were only open from 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM for some reason. But on the first evening, we went to the Reggae bar, where the tables are positioned in a square around a boxing ring. There you alternate between watching the Thai professionals and the drunk tourists boxing. Very amusing. After that, we drank a very disgusting bucket on the beach.

Now we're heading to Koh Lanta, where it's supposed to be more relaxed.
