When I left Florence in the early afternoon, there was a brief rain shower, which quickly turned into bright sunshine. Finally arrived in Tuscany, I was able to push myself a little on the last stages. I had planned to be back by the sea in the evening despite sightseeing in Florence.
Through picturesque vineyards and small villages, the journey continued westward. I followed the Arno River for some stretches, until I eventually headed a bit north to reach Lucca. As expected, I would have liked to stay here a little longer as well, but it was more important to me to reach the sea and have a choice of campsites.
In the evening, I reached Viareggio and settled on a nice campsite a little off the beach. Quickly bought some food and drinks and then cooked on one of the longest sandy beaches in Italy. Fortunately, I found a freely accessible section of the beach, as most spots here belong to beach bars or restaurants. The meal was ready just in time for sunset, and later I happily fell asleep on my air mattress.
