Wow what a feeling! Yesterday we went skydiving and in a 1-minute free fall, we came back down! An amazing experience that we both want to repeat 😜
We were told that Mission Beach is one of the best places to go skydiving and we can confirm that. After a short briefing, we took the bus to the airfield, quickly got into the small propeller plane, and went up to 15,000 ft. From there, we had a magnificent view of Mission Beach, the beach, and the Great Barrier Reef. Then the green light came on and everything happened so fast - there was no time for second thoughts - and before we knew it, we were in the air and 15 minutes later we landed right on the beach.
Yesterday we continued with Fat Mike to the coastal town of Cardwell where we almost stayed overnight in a huge car park all by ourselves.
After a good breakfast, we wanted to visit some lookouts and waterholes today to cool off, especially since the temperature reached 37°C 🥵
Unfortunately, we had no luck at the first 3 spots, as the 'Cardwell Spa' was dry, as well as waterholes 2 and 3. So, we decided to drive to the lookout in Cornwell, which offered a fantastic view!
We eventually got lucky and found a waterhole where we could cool off before the 1 1/2-hour drive to the largest waterfall in Australia. Simone even tried the infamous crab sandwich in Cornwell, which she loved, while I stuck to ice cream 😁
The drive there was not easy, as a narrow mountain road led to Girringun National Park and the Wallaman Falls. Of course, the view from the top was not enough for us, so we hiked for about 1 hour through rainforest, eucalyptus forest, and wooded areas to the bottom of the 268-meter high waterfall, where we refreshed ourselves in the refreshing water! The way back up was a bit challenging in this heat, and at the top, we wished for the cooling of the fresh water 😜 luckily the air conditioning in Fat Mike works fine.
We will now continue to Townsville where we will spend the next 2 days.
