On Tuesday, March 27th, we left Lesotho. We were ready to go at 6:00 in the morning as we had a long drive ahead of us. After crossing the border, we set up our breakfast. It was fun to have breakfast right at the border, and the border police joined us:D
Then we drove to Graaff Reiner. It was a long day that became even longer. When we arrived, we went straight to the Sunset Drive. We drove to the Valley of Desolation, an area in the mountains with breathtaking views and numerous canyons. We then enjoyed the sunset on a platform in the midst of the mountains with a glass of wine. Everything was so peaceful and felt like paradise. Afterwards, George cooked a delicious dinner for us, and we fell asleep in our tent:D
On Wednesday, March 28th, we left Graaff Reinet in the morning and drove to the Addo Elephant National Park. We had lunch next to the truck and were able to see the first elephants. Then we went on a game drive through the park. We passed by a large herd of elephants right next to the roadside. After a while, we saw a big gray spot in the distance. We used the binoculars, and after some discussion among the guides, it became clear that it was a dead elephant. A jackal was already there, wandering around and waiting for its colleagues to join and have lunch.... It was sad. Suddenly, we saw another herd of elephants on the other side of the road. They crossed over and touched each other's heads. It looked like they were cuddling. The guides explained to us that this is a sign of their condolences, as they had lost a member of the group. What amazing animals!
In the evening, we sat around the campfire for a long time. Suddenly, two people who had said goodbye 20 minutes ago came back, completely upset. The reason: a spider. And not just any spider, a very large spider right at the door. The guides said it wasn't poisonous, but the two couldn't bring themselves to enter the room, so they slept somewhere else that night. Thank God something like that can't happen to us in our cozy tent:D In all the commotion, I even forgot my fanny pack, but one of the guides took it and returned it to me the next day. What a relief!
On Thursday, March 29th, we had breakfast and drove to Port Elizabeth. There were many small shops, and we enjoyed a delicious coffee. In the afternoon, we went back to the park, but it was raining, so we didn't see many animals and decided to return to the camp early.
