27.10.2018 The second day in Rio.
Good morning Rio
The weather is better today😊
We are awake too early and the clock always shows something wrong, because daylight savings time has been changed here.
But it doesn't matter, we have breakfast with a view of the Sugar Loaf.
And then we go there
after breakfast with a taxi. Taxi rides are quite cheap in Rio. The trip by cable car to the Sugar Loaf costs 99 real (24 €) but it's worth every penny. We have a great view over Rio, the Copacabanaaaaa, and the Christ the Redeemer statue.
The cable car to the Sugar Loaf is celebrating its 106th anniversary today.
The view is truly magnificent.
After we came back down, we take a taxi to Copacabana. (Costs about 2.50 €)
It looks exactly like you know it from photos.
A colorful hustle and bustle and in between there are always demonstrations, because there will be elections in Brazil tomorrow, and probably someone who is very right-wing will win. A student told us today that everyone is afraid of a military dictatorship and she fears that next year it will no longer be possible to travel to Brazil.
All those who are running around in yellow-green jerseys apparently vote for the right-wing. And everyone else wears thong bikinis👙hihi🤦
Good reason for a Caipirinha on the Copacabanaaaaa🎵🎵
And since you can't stand on one leg, another one
A Caipirinha costs 2.50 € here on the beach.
Let's continue towards Ipanema.
Since we have enough sun for today, we take the subway and a taxi home.
This seems to be relatively safe. But according to the student we talked to today, appearances can be deceiving.
Since it gets dark here at 6 pm and you should be home, we spend the evening with a bottle of wine by the pool. Good night Rio.
