So today in San Gimignano— a reunion with a beloved city!

A year ago I was here— nothing has changed, even in the large hall next to the church the three chairs are still there where the same old men seem to sit every evening- maybe they've been sitting there for years? This city is as old as Volterra and just as beautiful. Today I want to explore it again.

Thank goodness I brought my walking poles with me as I set off. It's steep downhill along a small country road into the olive fields. Here there are only flowers, little geckos that quickly fly away, olive trees, sun, and the incomparable view of San Gimignano. I have covered 10 km so far— including the ascent, which took a considerable amount of time and demanded a lot from my nonexistent condition 😩🤦‍♀️

So I absolutely had to stop by Gelateria Dondoli for some strength, Mr. Dondoli is also present on German television, there is a wonderful film about Tuscany on NDR and he is in it. And his ice cream is truly world-class.

In the evening, I went to dinner with Brunella, my lovely landlady- also last year, very delicious Tuscan cuisine. Afterwards, she walked with me through the nocturnal San Gimignano, which feels completely different than during daylight— mystical, a bit eerie in some corners, absolutely quiet - if a knight had come around the corner now, it wouldn't have surprised me.

Great day, great evening, Tuscan dream tour.

Insight of the day: when it goes downhill, it also goes uphill again!
