After a wonderful night with plenty of deep sleep, I went shopping in the morning after (Italian) breakfast. But I'm not complaining about breakfast at all, as it was an extra treat from my landlady who knew I couldn't go shopping the night before because all the supermarkets were closed. With toast and jam and a yogurt, I was fortified for the first language challenge...
In the supermarket, I worked through my shopping list and there was only one funny incident at the cheese counter:
I picked out a nice piece of Peccorino staggionato. The salesman pretended not to notice that I didn't actually speak Italian and asked, '...gratinato?' I didn't understand, so I just said 'si'. He then put my wonderful piece of cheese in a larger device and pressed...and voila, I had grated cheese for the next two weeks :-) well, that already determined part of the dinner: baked tomatoes.
Once the refrigerator was filled, I went on a nice car tour. Along the SS 187 towards Trapani, to Balestrate (so to speak my hometown) - something you can skip - to Castellamare del Golfo. The place has a fishing port and the stainless steel counters on the quay suggest that you can get fresh fish here early in the morning.
After an unsafe climb...
