Arrival and First Impressions

After my flight, which was almost exactly on time, I safely landed in Vancouver on Saturday, where a nice lady picked me up and took me to my host family in North Vancouver. I had some doubts that immediately disappeared with my warm welcome. I met my host parents Kushru and Shahin, their son Cyrus, his wife, their baby, and his mother, as well as Aneesha, another exchange student, who are all very open and kind.

North Vancouver is a beautiful neighborhood near the mountains, and I find it very impressive how green everything is here. There are more trees and bushes in this neighborhood than in my village in Germany. Vancouver is located by the sea and the mountains, which allows you to go skiing or sit by the ocean.

On Sunday afternoon, Aneesha and I decided to drive downtown, where we explored the harbor area. Since the stores in Vancouver are all open on Sundays, we went to some of them and then met two friends of Aneesha. We went to a bar and had Canadian beer and cider, finally fulfilling the no beer before four rule.

So far, I have only been with Indian people and have realized that not all Indian English is indecipherable, and the people I have met so far are all very friendly. I have also experienced firsthand why Vancouver is also known as Raincouver.

Today was my first day at the language school, and the people there are all very nice (more reports to come).
