Finally back to Van Life!

After 2 days and 1,300 km we finally reached the long-awaited beautiful campground 'Fitzgerald Bay'. With drinking water, toilets, and ocean view, it promises everything for a longer stay.

Moritz was very excited to set up the awning because we haven't tested it since the purchase. It looks great and gives us an excellent shaded spot where we can set up our table and chairs. The pull-out compartment on which the gas cooker is placed is super practical!

We spent three wonderful days there. Unfortunately, on the third day, the flies became too persistent even with the fly nets over our face, and we moved on towards Port Pirie. We made a short stop until we were instructed by a police officer to return to our campground. A 6-day lockdown had been declared since midnight due to new corona cases.

We found a charming little campground inland where we could still see the sea. And to the north, we had a great view of the mountains of the Flinders Ranges, which were still shrouded in light fog in the morning. We stayed here for 3 nights until the lockdown was lifted early. Then we drove 250 km down the coastal road to the southernmost tip in the small Innes National Park.

After just a few meters, we were greeted by three emus, leisurely crossing the road. The road followed the coast with breathtaking views of the ocean. Wow, we missed that. This view from our van. We are grateful that we get to experience this and enjoy every kilometer driven by the van without any problems, every animal that crosses our path, and every moment that is so carefree that it is almost perfect. We walked to Cape Spencer Lighthouse and stayed there until the sun set directly over the sea. A few meters further, a few kangaroos watched us. And we watched them. It quickly cooled down, and we drove to the campground where a kangaroo was munching on grass. But it was not an ordinary kangaroo (for us) because it was at least twice as big as the ones we had seen before. Its feet and tail were twice as long, and it had a large, strong upper body. It stood upright and was as tall as me, but it was still a bit anxious and hopped away with powerful jumps.

Our next destination was the city of Adelaide, partly because I finally need new sneakers. (My sneakers shrank in the wash 4 months ago, and since then I have been wearing the same ones day after day. Yes, they already have holes. At home, they would have been in the trash long ago, but here everything is a little different. 😃) We drove to the nearest Puma store, which was located in an outlet center, and after some consideration, we realized that it was Black Friday. Great timing! I found new shoes and more, but after 8 months of farm work in the Central Desert, I think I deserve it. 😊 We also had sushi and a delicious raspberry cheesecake.

There was a lot going on in the city center of Adelaide, and it was really fun to go shopping, especially because several DJs played really good music. We missed the big city feeling a bit.

On Sunday, we visited the 'Central Markets'. It is a large popular market with many different food stands. You can buy vegetables, fruits, bread, spices, jams, and crepes. After stocking up on fresh food for the next few days, we made a detour to the beach or to the town of 'Glenelg'. There was a large ferris wheel on the promenade, and the restaurants and cafes lined up next to each other. After dinner, we made our way to 'Mount Gambier' just before the border to Victoria. We found a wonderful campground with beach access halfway there today. We will continue tomorrow. 😊
