Day 7 (2): The Fichtelbergbahn

ຈັດພີມມາ: 14.07.2023

I drove to Cranzahl after visiting the mine to take a small tour with the Fichtelbergbahn. Here, a historic steam locomotive is still operating in daily service. The railway connects Cranzahl and the spa town of Oberwiesenthal.

Oberwiesenthal is Germany's highest city (915m). Especially in winter, when there is snow, the serenade must be particularly beautiful. There are even ski lifts and a small ski area. After a short stay, it was time to go back.

The railway line passes through remote forests. With an average speed of around 20 km/h, you could travel leisurely and enjoy the nature around you to the fullest. Fortunately, there were also open-top panoramic cars, perfect for the warm weather.

At the station, there were delicious baked beans before I made my way towards Bayreuth through the Czech Republic.

In the next few days, I will visit Bayreuth and Bamberg. Maybe even Nuremberg. After that, I will go to Munich for the weekend.
