From Alberobello we head back to the sea. We can roll down 400 meters in altitude on a great road, past fields and huge groves of ancient olive trees. In Monopoli, we admire the beautiful harbor and then take an 80-kilometer train ride to bypass the city of Bari. Fortunately, it's very easy and free to take bikes on local trains.

Along the coast, we continue cycling to Trani. The beaches in the city are crowded, even on the harbor walls there are sunbathers. We visit the grand cathedral and the amazing harbor.

After that, we pass by endless salt pans, some of which have purple water. It is incredibly hot in the plain.

Then we reach the spur of the boot, the Gargano.

This coast is another scenic highlight for us. On mostly quiet roads, we enjoy the varied landscape with coves, bizarre rock formations, sandy beaches, and turquoise waters. There are many climbs to tackle around the Gargano. In Vieste, we take a day off to visit the city. Afterwards, we are particularly fond of Peschici with its beautiful old town. The Gargano is extremely popular with surfers and campers, we have never seen such a high density of campsites anywhere else!
