The boozy night at the rest stop comes to an abrupt end at 7:00am. The trucks behind and next to us are already making a lot of noise. Last night at 11pm, we were the only ones in the parking lot, but in the morning we're glad to be able to leave the full rest stop behind. We continue driving on the freeway towards the south and make a short stop in a small village by the sea. As always, the sky is covered with thick clouds. Therefore, we decide to continue driving to the south - all the way to Torquay. There, we spot a shopping street with every known surf brand. We have to stop there, and it's also cloudy anyway. We are even among the customers who are ready on site before the store opens - classic bargain hunters. To pass the time, we grab our morning coffee at the only coffee stand.
After our shopping tour with a bathing shirt each, the sun is now shining and there is no sign of the overcast sky. At the camping site in Torquay, we ask for a spot, which we luckily get here as well. It's not a matter of course, because now it is the Australian high season in the middle of their summer vacation (Christmas to the end of January). This time, the camping site is really a small village...
After parking Yoshi, we try our hand at washing our clothes for the first time. It works perfectly. Finally, we can have breakfast, or rather have breakfast for lunch.
With sunscreen on, we head to the big beach, which is quite crowded and seems to be a real surfer's paradise. The sea is hidden by all the boards. Therefore, we walk about 5 minutes to the east and find a small stretch of beach with very few people. We set up camp there for the afternoon. Many seagulls keep us company. Unfortunately, they don't seem to appreciate Marco's presence very much, so his towel suddenly looks shitty. Covered in bird droppings, he tries to wash it out in the sea and doesn't see the incoming wave. So more than just the corner of the towel gets wet :) Of course, there was still enough time for a quick dip in the sea.
