México Cancún

Rarely have we felt the 'take care of yourselves' before a trip as extreme as before this one. It is clear that Mexico has one of the highest murder rates in the world, and everyone knows why, but all of this takes place thousands of kilometers away from the Yucatan Peninsula. At least deadly diseases are not as prevalent here as in Africa or Southeast Asia. So: Think positive 🙃. Flights were booked only two weeks before, but directly and quite cheaply. The flight with Eurowings was also quite pleasant, as I had expected worse. Maren slept for 10 out of the 11 hours, and I occupied myself during that time. Cancún also welcomed us with a crisp 32 degrees. At the beach, we quickly indulged in the first Mexican delicacies and cocktails, and then I finally got to sleep. The next two days consisted mainly of beach, food, beer, and cocktails. In a restaurant, I was allowed to play a game with our waiter. One of us held the positive pole of a relatively large battery, and the other the negative pole. We held hands and his colleague kept turning up the device. At level 7 out of 9, I had to let go because my arms were no longer doing what I wanted them to. It was funny, but the game also explained the absolute insanity of the restaurant staff present. A short trip to Cancún Downtown was used to get bus tickets for our further journey to Vallalodid. A shorter stay in Cancún would certainly have been enough, except for the beach and nightlife, it's really bad here. Mass tourism in its purest form. One hotel bigger and uglier than the next, all along a length of almost 30 km. But now we're heading inland by bus. Culture, looking at stones, swimming in cenotes, etc. Vacation, you know.
