09/29/16 | Day 68| bus culture

Today a slightly different topic: Taking the bus in Salvador. Yes, that's a topic in itself, because every ride is like a roller coaster. The speed at which they drive here is simply unbelievable. As a passenger, you have to be quick to get on the bus before it continues with the door open or because it doesn't even stop properly. In addition, you only pay for one bus ride, no matter where or how long, 3.30 Reais (about a little less than 1 Euro), and on Sundays and holidays, even only half. Since we had the Salvador Card, we were allowed to ride for half the fare as students.

But there are other interesting things as well. One could also describe it as a kind of bus culture. Almost every ride, street vendors get on to sell their goods. Sometimes musicians also get on to sing some songs for the passengers and collect some money. Overall, it's very cool and it took some getting used to experiencing all this on a bus, because there is nothing like it in Germany.
