Hello, hello!
5 days ago, we continued to Cambodia. Our first stop was the capital city of Phnom Penh, where we spent the last few days. The city is much smaller than Bangkok, but also much more bustling ;) People drive wherever there is space and there were only walkable sidewalks on the main roads. This made getting around the city quite adventurous :)) In the city, we could see big differences between the old Phnom Penh and the newly built neighborhoods and houses.
In Phnom Penh, we visited the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. It used to be the former S-21 prison of the Khmer Rouge. It serves as a reminder of the crimes committed during the genocide under the rule of the Khmer Rouge. Even though it was very emotional and sad, the visit was worth it as we learned a lot about this dark chapter in the history of Cambodia.
We also visited the Golden Temple and the Wat Phnom temple, which the capital was named after. We didn't find the Golden Temple as spectacular. We really liked the Wat Phnom temple. It had beautiful wall paintings and was surrounded by a small park where we could cool off and relax.
We also went to the Russian Market where you could buy all sorts of trinkets, souvenirs, silk products, and (fake) clothes and bags. It was cool to walk through the narrow alleys and see that. We would have liked to visit the Royal Palace as well. Unfortunately, it was closed for renovations during the time of COVID and will only reopen after our time in Phnom Penh.
Overall, we liked Phnom Penh. But we are also looking forward to discovering some more relaxed places in Cambodia!
Best regards from Ole and Lisbeth
