Today we took the Shinkansen again to the next city. The destination was Hiroshima. Everyone knows the story of World War II when the Americans dropped the first atomic bomb on a populated city on August 6, 1945 at 8:15 am. But what has become of the city today? Can you still see the destruction? We wanted to get to the bottom of this and take a closer look at the city.
Upon arrival, we had an uneasy feeling. At first glance, you can't see what the city went through about 70 years ago. However, it is noticeable that many streets and buildings are new - which is not really surprising. In the Memorial Museum, we saw the full extent of the destruction. It is the darkest chapter in Japan's history, and it is incomprehensible how people can be capable of such things. Only the Peace Memorial remains as a reminder of the destructive power of the atomic bomb.
Tomorrow we will already be heading back to Tokyo before leaving the wonderful country of Japan on Wednesday 😊🎌🍜🎎⛩👘
