Localities in Trujillo

ຈັດພີມມາ: 05.05.2024

The next morning starts relaxed again - after all, we want to take the relaxation of the spa evening with us into the next day. After a meager breakfast in the hotel, we head off towards the city. I pick up some mixed fruit on the side of the road, which I eat on the way to the Plaza Mayor. Our goal with Simone and Callie is lunch in the local market hall. We drink strawberry and papaya smoothies. I have tamales Peruanos with them. The further walk takes us to a small library, where we can only browse but unfortunately cannot find any English books.

The buildings on Plaza Mayor are a wonderful example of the Arabic and colonial influences. Since Arab women are not allowed to show their entire faces and hair, the balconies of the Arabic architecture are closed from the outside. The women sat/stood on the balcony and could watch what was going on in the square, while leaving their face and hair scarves in the house. During the colonial period, the balconies were designed to be much more open. This means that you can quickly see what is in front of you and how old the buildings might be as you walk past.

At coffee time we look for a café on the Plaza Mayor and look out over the Plaza Mayor from the open balcony where we are sitting. Afterwards we browse through the supermarket in Trujillo (no, we didn't buy 15kg of watermelon) and stock up on snacks for the long night on the bus that awaits us on the way to Lima. Before that we want to eat properly and go to a Chinese restaurant near the market. We are then picked up from the hotel at 8pm and check in on the night bus at 9pm, which will drop us off in Lima the next morning at around 8:30am.
