Cape Cod in the rain

ຈັດພີມມາ: 23.08.2018

We were awakened today by raindrops knocking against the windows.

Dark clouds were moving across the sky, so the only option was to turn over in bed and go back to sleep. After that, we slowly had breakfast and got ready for the day. The weather forecast promised dry weather in the afternoon, with some clouds but also some sunshine.

So we thought cleverly that we would go to a shopping mall in Hyannis. But apparently, everyone else had the same idea. And since Cape Cod is like Mallorca for the residents of the Northeast, the 40 km drive to Hyannis became a test of patience.

Our visit to the mall lasted enough to buy four t-shirts, which we somehow have to fit into our suitcases (I have already checked, a 4 kg package to Germany costs $42).

Around 2:00 pm, the clouds cleared and the sun slowly but surely came out. To get some sea air, we made our way back to our vacation spot, Chatham.

Chatham, along with the Kennedy residence of Hyannisport, is the most elite and expensive place on Cape Cod. You can tell by the high density of Mercedes, Audi, and Porsche cars on the main street. Here, there are no typical tourist shops with souvenirs and fast food, but jewelers and designer stores.

And plenty of rich idiots who buy luxury cars and can't drive them...

Due to the late hour, a visit to the beach was not possible since every public beach can only be reached by car and charges $20 per parking spot. Sounds expensive.

It is.

Unfortunately, there are no other parking lots, unless you are eager to have a wheel clamp on your tire. But at least you don't have to pay an entrance fee or tourist tax to use the beach.

However, there is still a small section of the beach in Chatham where you can at least get to the water without taking out a small loan.

On the way back, we visited a beautiful harbor.

These types of harbors are everywhere here.

Of course, only where there is water...

With a little detour to a mini golf course...

... we made our way back to our vacation rental, "The Knoll", where the grill and a 500-gram steak were waiting for us!

Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be excellent, so we're heading to the beach. We will visit the Nantucket Sound side, where the water is warmer than on the open Atlantic side or in Cape Cod Bay. And the polar bears are friendlier...
