~ Wednesday, 10/17/18 ~

Hello there,

Sorry for not reaching out last week. There was just so much happening every day that I was too tired to write it all down. But now I'll try to catch up :-)

On Wednesday morning, there was a random opportunity for a day trip to Whistler. One of my roommates had rented a car for her few days in Vancouver, so I joined her and two other girls from Mexico and Brazil on a trip to Whistler. It's interesting how you always meet people from different parts of the world here :-)

Whistler is about 1.5 hours away from Vancouver by car and became a well-known winter sports resort after the 2010 Olympic Games. Now, with no snow yet, it's great for hiking. We chose an easy hiking trail through the forest, passing by a small lake. Our destination was the slightly larger Green Lake, where we took a little break. The view of the lake was beautiful, and all around, you could see the high snow-covered mountains. There was even a small seaplane airport, but it's not operational in October due to the approaching winter.

I made my way back alone because the other two wanted to take the bus back to Whistler... The 40-minute walk took me along a river and past several small houses before we met again in Whistler. There, we had a little tourist program: taking pictures with the Olympic rings and victory podium and strolling around the village :-)

On the way back by car, we drove along Highway 99, just like on the way there. It's supposed to be the most beautiful highway in Canada as it runs right along the coast and the mountains. I had an amazing view from the passenger seat :-D We also made several stops at lookout points where we could enjoy the sunset. It was already dark when we arrived back at the hostel in Vancouver.
