After a cozy breakfast in Matala, our journey continued to Ierapetra. On the way there, it became clear to us that Google is not always correct! Apparently, the road here was still very new and not yet recorded on Google Maps. And so Google constantly wanted to send us on unpaved dirt roads, even though there was a wonderful paved road. Eventually, we turned off the navigation and preferred to follow the signs.
By Captains Corner
After a while, the signs led us to our destination. The accommodation 'By Captains Corner' was marked as good and affordable in the travel guide, so we decided to go there. We were pretty sure that there would be a room available for us here, and we were right. Once again, we had the accommodation all to ourselves. The room was nice and had a wonderful view of the sea. However, we would definitely not recommend or visit this accommodation again because it was simply dirty! Unfortunately, we noticed this a bit too late. The floor seemed like it hadn't been vacuumed in ages, and the bathroom also left something to be desired in terms of cleanliness. All in all, the worst accommodation we had on our vacation so far. The only thing that somewhat made up for it was the extremely nice couple who owned the accommodation.
Small but not really nice
Since we fortunately spent most of the time outside, we could overlook that and set out to explore Ierapetra. But the city also did not shine with any particular beauty or charm. There was only a small beach promenade with a few restaurants and a not particularly inviting beach.
We didn't do much else on this day. Later, we had a good dinner in a restaurant right in front of the accommodation and right by the sea.
There is not much to see in Ierapetra, so a longer stay is not worth it. However, our actual goal was the island of Chrissi, which is located right in front of Ierapetra. We wanted to take a trip there the next day.
