Sliding Rock and Chimney Rock

ຈັດພີມມາ: 04.10.2016

The first destination of the day was Sliding Rock. It is about a 2-hour drive from Charlotte. Sliding Rock is a rock that you can slide down. You can see it best in the photo.

After that, we visited four different waterfalls that were relatively close by. Unusually for American standards, the trails were quite long from the parking lot to the waterfall. But it was definitely worth it.

This is the 'Three Waterfall'. As the name suggests, there are 3 waterfalls in a row.

And now the breathtaking pictures of Chimney Rocks. Before we walked to this viewing platform, we had to climb stairs for 20 minutes. It was really exhausting, but it was definitely worth it. Normally, there is even an elevator that takes you from the parking lot to the top of the Chimney Rock viewing platform, but it was broken. But I actually liked that it was broken, so I already had my unit of training ;) Another typical thing was that an American heard us talking on the first small viewing platform and suddenly started speaking to us in German. His father was in the Air Force back then and they were stationed in Kaiserslautern. This was around 1966 or so, and he still speaks such good German!! But enough talking, now come the breathtaking pictures :) Oh, by the way, I can't recommend the Chimney Rock for people with a fear of heights. You are extremely high up and have a very good view of the abyss.

Surprisingly, trees even grow this high up. Isn't that wonderful?
