The Grand Canyon is very photogenic.

No matter from which perspective you photograph it, it always looks fantastic.

We arrived at the national park around 5:00 PM and it was absolutely no problem to get a nice campsite (for $18) without a reservation.

After the stormy night before and the long drive, we were tired. However, we still felt like grilling. But just when the charcoal was glowing, the rain came again and drove us into the motorhome - instead we had pasta. They tasted good too.

Speaking of weather. The outskirts of Hilary also have something good. Due to the changeable weather, there seems to be little going on in the national parks. No queues anywhere, not much going on on the hiking trails of the Grand Canyon, free campsites without reservations. Very unusual. With 5 million visitors per year, it is one of the absolute top spots in the USA.

Another surprise was how accessible the Grand Canyon is. You can practically descend from the southern rim with a wheelchair. Free buses take you from one spot to the next. There is information everywhere, friendly national park staff, ... We were impressed not only by the canyon itself, but also by the infrastructure.

By the way, the plateau is located at an altitude of up to 2400 meters above sea level and the Colorado River dug down to about 700 meters.

Correspondingly difficult is the descent and ascent. The weather with cool 24° and partly cloudy skies would be ideal, but we didn't want to risk a day of descent and another day of ascent with the children in the unpredictable weather - apart from that, you also need permission from the NP rangers.

A really successful day. The grilling in the evening only partially got rained out this time. The sausages were done before the rain came again - it rained the whole night and the next morning.

Until now, we had never had more than 24° in the regions where it hardly rains at this time and is rather around 35-40°C. Unusual, but pleasant, after we had good weather on our tour.
