Now we have arrived at our last destination in Australia - such a strange feeling! Unfortunately, all our flights were delayed, so we didn't arrive in Perth until late afternoon. We had rented a camper right away, as we don't have much time to explore the west coast. However, when we arrived at the rental, we were in for a rude awakening: it was already closed. After much back and forth, it was clear that we wouldn't get a car that day, as the opening hours are from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and you have to stick to them. Not exactly customer-friendly, but oh well, we had no choice but to quickly find a hostel for one night. We spent the first evening in Perth and went out to eat. Despite the rough start, the city makes a really great impression. I'm curious to see what the next few days will bring.
The next day, after much back and forth, we finally got our camper - a manual transmission! Oh boy, we've only had automatic cars here so far, and after 3 months, driving a manual car again is definitely more than strange, especially since you have to learn it again on the wrong side. But it's all doable - the driving gets better from kilometer to kilometer, even though it was really very bumpy at the beginning. We used the day to go shopping and do our laundry, as it was much needed after our Outback trip! So now 2 days have passed from our time on the west coast... Time goes by so fast.
The next day started with a workout! I made a firm decision to do a little more for my body in the last few days. So today was the start - 30 minutes and I was exhausted. Apparently, my fitness has gone downhill in the past few weeks. After that, we went to the city - Jozy had to go to the hairdresser's and we explored the city a bit. However, our time was limited because we bought tickets for the premiere of "Fifty Shades of Grey 2" in the evening.
Then followed 3 days of rain in a row... it was pouring down continuously - without a break. On the first day, we took it relatively easy - after all, we wanted to go shopping anyway, so we didn't need any sun. On the second day, we headed south on the west coast: the destination was Margaret River. There are numerous wineries that you can visit. We had imagined it nice to stroll through the wineries and taste wine in the sun, but not in pouring rain?! Well... so on the third day, we had no choice but to look for the nearest cinema. What else can you do in the rain if you don't have a roof over your head? The nearest cinema was 90 km away in Bunbury. When we arrived there, the sun even briefly appeared and we had some time to explore the town before the movie. It was the weekend and the highlight was a food market. At least we had a delicious dinner.
After 3 days of rain, Jozy and I were not in the best mood anymore. We just didn't expect the last 3 weeks in Australia to be like this. Especially since we were told that February is the hottest month on the west coast... well, what can you do.
The next day finally brought a change in the weather! From now on, according to the weather forecast, the sun is guaranteed - finally! We headed back to Margaret River. There we took part in a "Behind the Scene Tour" at a winery. It was really interesting to get an impression of how wine is grown and produced, even though I'm not really a wine drinker (and the wine tasting didn't really convince me either). After that, we continued to Rockingham. The city is located just before Perth and we used the evening for a beach walk and dinner at sunset on the beach. From today on, our long-awaited vacation begins for us! We want to make use of the last few days with hopefully lots of sun to relax on the beach and get a tan.
