Of the 230km Danube cycle path between Vienna and Linz, I found the middle part in the narrow Danube Valley of the Wachau region to be the most beautiful. Here there is wine and fruit growing, castles and beautiful views of the towns. The other sections you ride for kilometers and kilometers on the dam and don't really see much. But hundreds of cyclists of all classes come towards you and the road cyclists overtake you. I find beautiful spots to swim in the Danube and make good progress. I cover 108km until Melk, with the first flat tire, and another 97km to Ausee the next day. That's where the second spoke broke. It's fun to watch the surfing in the evening light and when cooking dinner you meet the other cyclists at the table and exchange ideas. Unfortunately, the mosquitos bite mercilessly and it's itching horribly today. I will remember Linz as an industrial location. There are certainly nice corners in the old town, but at 8 in the morning there is not much life yet. I'm happy to leave the Danube Valley and now turn towards the Bohemian Forest.
