Einfach wild and weit

On our last day in Denmark we set off towards Hirtshals for the ferry. But because we still had so much time (a whole day until departure) we decided to visit some interesting places.

Aalborg Waterline: Music house and Utzon Center (the one from the Sydney Opera House)

First, we went to Aalborg, a small city (for Danish standards a big city) on the Gjøl Bredning.

Well, the Danish weather... it's mostly forecasted rain, but in reality it's either drizzling or changing with rising temperatures towards the end of the day. Since the latter was the case on this day, it was sometimes warm, sometimes cold, sometimes windy, sometimes hot. So quite pleasant for a stroll along the water.

Afterwards, we continued towards the north, we were really excited.

So, one last stop at the Danish coast had to be made. And we couldn't have chosen a better place than Rubjerg Knude Fyr. A truly magical place. At first, you walk along a pretty normal-looking coast covered in roses. And then you see them: huge dunes. It almost looks like a desert instead of the sea. In between stands a white lighthouse.

Fun fact: this lighthouse has only been standing here for 2 years, before that it stood 80 meters closer to the coast

When you arrive there, you are greeted by a strong wind that reminds you of a sandstorm. It's so sandy and windy that you can see a proper sand highway on the dunes. Finally, you reach the steep coast. You can hear the sea and want to take a deep breath, but you end up swallowing sand. Awesome. The sand shower is worth it, because the sea... simply... wild and vast. Magical.

Wild and vast - actually the North Sea

That's all we need. See you soon, Denmark!
