Day 3

Visited Highlights: Legoland

This morning we're up early. We're heading towards Dubai, where the 'Dubai Parks' - multiple amusement parks - have recently opened. We want to visit 2 out of the 4 parks, and today we're starting with a visit to Legoland Dubai.

Unfortunately, there are no discounts for the parks in the Entertainer book, and I couldn't find anything online either, so we can't avoid the entrance fee of 295 AED per person. (As of 2017, about €68 per person)

The parks open at 10 am, and we arrive at the parking lot at 9:50 am and we're confused: Hundreds of EMPTY parking spaces. There's no one here - are we in the right place!?

We park our Chevy in parking lot number 1 - we're the only ones. I can't believe it... We're already being expected by an employee. He waves us over and asks where we're going. We're told to wait for a moment, the 'train' will be here soon!? A short while later, a small tourist 'train' arrives. There's already a family with 3 children in the wagon in front of us. So off we go to the entrance of Legoland - Service! Here we actually come across a handful of other tourists. Crazy - NOTHING GOING ON HERE!

It's already a cozy +38 degrees Celsius at 10 am. This could be interesting, because the main part of Legoland is 'Outdoor', so no air conditioning and hardly any shade. Phew....

We first walk through the Factory Street to 'Miniland'. Here, there are plenty of cities, sights, etc. in miniature scale made out of Lego bricks. Very cool!! With the push of a button, you can make trains run, bring cities to life, and much more. We love it! And it's air-conditioned 😉

here's the Legoland map

After that, we head out into the heat to Lego City, ride boats and carousels, and take funny pictures - we're still alone.

We remain alone in the 'Kingdom', the knight-themed section. Here, there are various carousels and a fun dragon roller coaster. The kids ride it 5 times in a row - there's no one else here - then we move on to the deserted 4D cinema, where we watch the Lego Nexo Knights Adventure at 12 pm. All alone....

Afterwards, we go to the restaurant and we're alone here too - spooky...

In the 'Imagination' section, we build our own Lego race cars and let them race on the 'racetrack' with timing. Very fun. We spend at least an hour here. Since it's now almost 40 degrees Celsius outside, this is a welcome change of pace. After that, we go to the Mini Freefall Tower and to the restaurant next door, where we want to get some coffee. Spooky - no one here except us. It's getting really creepy....

Next stop: Lego Adventure with the submarine ride 'Submarine Adventure'. It's really funny. You get into a mini submarine and dive - real water and real fish. We ride it 3 times in a row. We have nothing else to do 😊

After that, we explore what we haven't seen yet, cool off again in Miniland, and then start the second round where we do all the highlights again. I think we've ridden all the interesting rides at least 5 times by the end of the day!?

We actually come across only a handful of families, most of them are in Miniland (air-conditioned) or in the 'Built & Test' building. We hardly see anyone outside.

Even in the theater, where 'Ninjago Adventure' is playing, we're alone...

We leave the park around 6 pm and walk back to the car, through the Dubai Parks area with the hotel, river, and shops. Nothing going on.... Crazy....

A Legoland all to ourselves!
