Hello Max :)
Finally camped wild by the river
Sunday 18.3. (83 km/ 1100 meters climbing)
we know that today is supposed to be the last beautiful day so we ride quickly to Fox Glacier to have a good view.
There is a bike path to the parking lot from where you can walk to the glacier....actually
Unfortunately, the road is closed due to landslides and we can't hike to the glacier.
We can only see the ice masses from a viewpoint in the distance.
At night, my handlebar tape meets a Kea bird (parrot species) and it nibbles everything...thanks!
Monday (72 km)
As soon as we start riding, it starts raining and doesn't stop.
On the way, we overtake another crazy person who is also cycling in the rain.
His name is Satya, he is from India and is a well-known mountaineer. (he tells us that he has climbed with Lauren Lynn and others and goes to Everest every year, sometimes privately and sometimes as a guide. He was with the IMAX team in 1996 during the Great Disaster)
We will spend the evening with him at a campsite.
There are also a few anglers who invite us for a beer and self-caught tuna- delicious.
In the end, a German couple comes and leaves us their leftovers for the next day. Very nice!
Tuesday 20.3.
Today we will stay here at the campsite and relax.
The weather is not as bad as expected but we will have a nice day and paddle with the canoe on the lake ...
In the evening when I'm already in the tent and reading, Patrick comes and says that the fishermen have invited us again..
Of course we won't miss that. There will be tuna again and a lot of alcohol.
Later in the evening, one of the anglers tells us that they will take us with them the next day if it rains...
Wednesday 21.3.
It's raining.
So I ask if the offer still stands.
They don't know anything about it anymore .
But they agree.
Wanaka
At the campsite we meet Marius...a very nice and funny person from Gemisch.
